Inherited Reactions: How Family Patterns Shape Our Relationships
Many of the reactions we carry into our relationships were learned early in life. In the homes we grew up in, we absorbed unspoken rules about emotions, conflict, responsibility, and connection. Some of us learned to keep the peace. Others learned to withdraw, take care of everyone else’s feelings, or rely only on themselves.
These strategies often helped us navigate our families. But over time, they can also shape how we communicate and respond in the relationships that matter most.
In this session we’ll explore how family patterns influence our reactions today and begin to notice the strategies we may have inherited. With greater awareness, we gain the ability to respond differently and create more understanding in our relationships.
This conversation also sets the stage for deeper exploration in my upcoming session, Your Past Is Your Present: When Family Feels Distant.
