Lisane Basquiat Day! San Diego County Names Day After Community Advocate and Business Woman
(San Diego, CA - February 26, 2025) Lisane Basquiat, Hera Hub Carlsbad owner, and Shaping Freedom CEO and Founder, received a proclamation Tuesday from District 3 of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors. During the Board of Supervisors meeting, Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer honored Basquiat, and proclaimed February 25, 2025 as “Lisane Basquiat Day.”
Supervisor Lawson-Remer said the County of San Diego recognized Basquiat for her dedication to the best ideals of public service. “We proudly honor Lisane Basquiat for her extraordinary contributions to personal transformation, cultural preservation, entrepreneurial leadership, and the arts, and her work celebrating Black culture and empowering marginalized communities and preserving African American art and heritage,” the Supervisor said, reading the proclamation. “She has been a source of inspiration for many, and has made a proud and lasting impact. Through her vision and dedication, she’s enriched lives and strengthened communities.”
Basquiat expressed her gratitude for the acknowledgment. “I feel so honored and humbled, and I’m in awe that the Supervisor’s office has been watching my work for several years,” she said. “When the Supervisor’s Chief of Staff explained that the work we’re doing through Hera Hub Carlsbad, Shaping Freedom, and the estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat is seen and appreciated, it meant the world to me. I’m grateful and appreciative. I’m just really excited. It’s such a boost of encouragement and energy for the great work we’re looking for throughout 2025. Doing this work to support individuals to have and lead a healthier, more quality life is my life’s purpose.”
During a Tuesday interview with Fox 5 San Diego, Basquiat discussed her work with Hera Hub Carlsbad and Shaping Freedom, which led to the recognition.
